I'm a sap for plants, I love them. I hate it when they die, it's almost like losing a pet to me. I have an orchid that is essentially a goner, but cannot bring myself to let it go. So last night as I took Jessie for her last walk, one of my neighbours was putting out all of her rubbish for Friday as she was leaving today to go on a holiday to Spain. Nice for some! One of the things she was tossing was a houseplant, only because the flowers had gone and she didn't want to keep it without flowers. Me being me, I brought it home. Now, to my naive credit, when she said houseplant, I honestly thought she meant houseplant. I took it home, put it on an old dish on the kitchen windowsill, and then dried off the dog and we went to bed. Just as welll I was up before my husband this morning. From the window to the stove, I had snails all over the kitchen! I kid you not, the little slimers were everywhere. There must have been a dozen of them! So much for it being a houseplant, or God alone knows what her house must be like. I checked the plant and found a few more of them, put them all in a bucket, and dumped them in the orchard for the hedgehogs to have. I know there are hedgehogs there, so it's the first place I thought of. Yuck! Hubby never saw them, but when I came back from Jessie's morning walk I had to scrub the kitchen down. Disgusting! On the other hand, I like the plant itself, I just wish I knew what it is. Oddly, it shows no sign of the snails eating it, either.

One of the things I decided to do with my Toluna winnings was to get us a new bed. I decided to move our current one into the guest room and get rid of the old one that has been in there. The mattress was shot, so that went to the dump. But the double divan is in good nick, just not needed, so I put an ad in Free to Collector and figured it would go quickly. And the calls came in. I have had no fewer than four people call, get my address, and say that they are coming to collect it in the past week. Not one of them has showed up. There was one this morning, absolutely desperate to get it, so happy that it was still available, and she never showed up, either. I wasn't going anywhere today, but that really isn't the point. If people want a freebie that badly, why the hell don't they show up? Or at least phone to say that they aren't coming?
